Somebody recently reminded me that eventually 'a tiger will show his stripes', and that if you wait long enough, the assholes that you can't stand will reveal their true nature to the masses, and face their warranted scrutiny. Well today is a bad day for assholes everywhere because the old adage has proven to be true yet again. Robert McClelland has so totally screwed himself with his disgusting anti-semitic comments (comment #37 being the really terrible one) that I almost feel bad drawing more attention to his public flogging; but then I think about all of the times that he was unfair to people that he disagreed with and all seems just.
The comments that Robert made are covered ad nauseum by Cherniak, Kinsella, and Small Dead Animals so I won't re-post them, but I have to say that I am not surprised to see this kind of garbage coming from this guy. After all, he is the "%&@# the Jews" guy who is constantly crossing the line with his inappropriate comments. It was only a matter of time before he put his foot so far into his mouth that he choked on it.
Other positive outcomes of today's events:
1) there will now be an NDP blogroll that is not controlled by a spiteful, mean-spirited jerk,
2) all of the anti-My Blahg backlash prompted McClelland to tell the world that not only does he not speak for the NDP, but he is not even an NDP member.
So to all of the people, across party lines (even, begrudgingly, you Cherniak- you actually deserve mad props for this one), who have been burned, irritated, and offended by Robert McClelland: today is your day.

Well, depending on how the vote goes, Robert may be removed as a moderator of the Blogging Dippers.
As for McGrath's claim that a different blogroll is under construction, I think that is BS. But let's say there is one, and I tell you why it be a bad bad idea. Simple, because when a controversial like Robert's is made it can be directly tied to the party. There is a reason why the Liberals and Conservatives have independent blogrolls. Besides, there is no need to divide the Blogging Dippers.
I am sorry but what was mean spirited about the comments on Bring Me the Head of Brad Lavigne? After all this well paid hack has more power over NDP policy and direction than the members do. Thats a fact nothing mean spirited about it. As for Anne's comment I will believe it when I see it. Of course given the blogs posted at the NDP site I don't expect the roll to be very long or very substantive. When a party sets up a blog or a blog roll it will then be an official party site, with all the limitations that engenders.

way to go dipper chick. i was impressed by your statement on northern bcdipper's blog when this all blew up. unfortunately, there are too many bloggin dippers making the party look bad over this. i hope their defensiveness is merely a partisan circling of the wagons and does not indicate a more deep-seated problem with progressive values. all the best.
Yes, I agree indeed, good post. Roberts comments about jews have always been cringe worthy.
The NDP has a bit of unfair record I find of being percieved as not jewish friendly. Which ofcourse is odd since we have the noteworthy distinction of having the first jewish premier and leader of a federal party.
Nontheless, condemning anti-semtic slander is important and goes to show that it isn't tolerated in our party.
I just read thru the entire posting there again. And I fall to see the fuss with McClellalland. He's not anti-semite. I should know. I am a jew.
As I followed the conversation he was giving torontosteve a bad time for not thinking and stateing clearly why art decos long pompus ramblings were racist and antisemetic, which they were. Torontosteve was just demanding that the post be deleated and not discussued.I think McClellend wanted to chew up Art Deco gor a while tho first.
I get the feeling he does this on occasion.The idea being, to stir up a conversation. Unfortunatly, someone always pulls out that bloody list on names, Jewish sounding names. Do we know if thier monther's are jewish? Are they part of a cabal? Am I part of a cabal? I wish! I wouldn't be scrambling for rent each month.
As for the comment at 36 or 38. I think that was just frustration talking. Even the regulars were surprised. Everyone has moments like that. And listening to the blowhard spew out his rationalizations and points about how much smarter he was than every one else, how much he has read and his near death experience...sheesh, I was utterly fed up with him and he was a died in the wool conspiracy theory, wingnut racist antisemetic. Tho he will tell you he isn't, it's just the facts. ArtDeco was something else...something unclean for all that he loved to write on and on amd on.
But really I do think you are being harsh on Robert. I would reread the post if you could.
What name was Jason Cherniak using in there. Or am I being dense? I didn't know Robert was the moderator of the Blogging Dippers. Did'nt know there was a blogging Dippers...good to know.
