The Green Party is imploding

Strangely enough, not everyone in the Green Party is happy with Elizabeth May's deal with Dion.

Here are some great quotes from disgruntled Greens:

Why should Jack Layton show Ms. May and ourselves courtesy when she has done nothing but insult him since becoming leader. She comes from a conservative mind set and has done nothing in her leadership to build the kind of cooperation she now claims to be trying. She has been a liberal sympathizer for many months with little consideration for the NDP. She has continued to praise the liberal record through her misguided support of Dion, a record that pales in comparison to the NDP record which is mind boggling considering they had the power and the NDP does not. Stephane Dion does not believe in electoral reform nor parliamentary reform. Like Stephen Harper he will ignore any and all reform that threatens the dictatorial power of the PMO.

You guys are living in a delusion spun by both Ms. May and Mr. Dion that may yet prove fatal for the Greens. Stephane Dion will cast aside any cooperation with the Greens or the environment issues if he gets a majority government.
-Stephen LaFrenie, Nominated Green Candidate for Trinity-Spadina

And this one:
...the agreement to not run candidates strikes me more as backroom deal-making than cooperation - and it is being portrayed in that manner by Mr. Layton. The Green Party only has one chance to be seen by Canadians as a party that does politics differently. One of the costs to be paid for this deal is that it will put a question mark in the minds of some voters as to whether that premise is true.

These are just the ones that I could find easily. There are likely many more.

Listen to Ed Broadbent being rude: http://tinyurl.com/3c7upv

I guess he forgot that rudeness is reserved for MPs!!!!!!!

A few dissenters is hardly proof that the Greens are imploding. If this were so, the NDP, Liberals and Conservatives are all so dense from implosion that they couldn't function at all.....which is kind of the impression I'm getting lately......

The fact that people are freaking out about it just confirms my belief that this is the party to watch in upcoming elections. Its natural to be hostile when threatened, and thats exactly how the NDP appear right now. Hostile and threatened. It would better serve Canadians if everyone could just get along!

"There are likely many more."

There are likely lots more like me. I'm a GPC member an' I think Lizzie done a good thing. Most Green bloggers have been on the positive side. The party is definitely not imploding. Just thinkin' about how OTT that is got me laffin' so hard, a tear ran down my leg.

The problem I'm seein' is some people wanna make it out to be a merger. It ain't anything like a merger.

The Greens is runnin' candidates against Liberals in 306 ridings. This was a show of mutual respect and it affects just 2 ridings. Neither party leader has made any statement to the effect that they adopt the other party's philosophy.

No, just their campaign style.

Actually, I listened to the clip and I didn't find Ed Broadbent rude. He did dispute what she said. What I did notice, was that she tried to monopolize the conversation.
The other thing and too bad neither Ed or the Meridith said it about parties giving free rides when leaders go for seats in the govt, and trying to say this is a tradition. Well yes, it is true in a by-election situation, but I guess the libs in London North forgot that. It usually happens when a MP steps aside for his leader and lets the leader run. It is considered a safe seat.
During a general election it never happens, and hence, in 2003, Jack Layton ran against the liberal in his riding (the one he lives in) and won the seat. He definitely did not get a free ride. It was a hard fought race.
So I don't know what tradition May is speaking of except the one in her narrow view, and hoping her spin works.
I don't know about how other parties operate, but the NDP membership in ridings choose or elect their candidate of choice, and the leader does not impose his choice on them.
As to May saying that the NDP asked the NDP to stand down in BC, that might have been true, and would have happen during the election. That said, the difference here is May's belief that she is so wonderful and so important to saving the nation and the planet that - even though the green candidate got only like 600 or so votes and 4th place finish - the 2nd party of the NDP that came within 3000 votes of McKay should give her a free ride. That is some ego of personality. Moreover, she even said that she is not left and is quite conservative in leanings, so why would the only progressive left party in Canada give May a free ride.
All I can say to May is 'give your head a shake.'

The Green Party is not imploding.
It has simply been commandeered by Liberals masquerading as Greens.
I want my party back.

To run a candidate or not to run a candidate? That is the question local members of the Green party will vote on next month in St. Catharines.

Former Green party candidate and St. Catharines riding communications director Jim Fannon said Wednesday he will ask local Greens at an upcoming meeting to pass a resolution declaring they will not field a candidate in the next federal election.

First the Greens team up with the party that gave us 13 years of inaction on climate change.

Now they want to support Walt Lastewka?? The guy voted against same sex marriage?

Do the Greens have any progressive principals left?
