*Insert appropriate U2 song title here*

Stephen Harper has really done a number on our national reputation over this past week at the G8 Summit. He started by telling the world, even before the summit opened, that Canada won't even try to meet our Kyoto commitments, and ended by getting scolded by rockstars for allegedly blocking other G8 members from putting real figures in the humanitarian aid package to Africa.

Harper has faced heavy criticism for his conduct at the summit. From NDP Foreign Affairs Critic Alexa McDonough:
“On development, Stephen Harper was clearly labeled as one of the G8’s worst offenders on broken aid promises for Africa. He’s holding up the efforts to make tangible improvements in the future. On renewed nuclear tensions, Harper is giving vocal support for a global US missile shield, which blatantly escalates the nuclear threat in Europe and elsewhere in the world. Let’s face it, when it comes to diplomacy, Stephen Harper is more like a dam than a bridge-builder.”
But the best burn came from musician/ activist Bob Geldof:
"A man called Stephen Harper came to Heiligendamm, but Canada stayed home."
Yes, Stephen Harper has really misrepresented the values of Canadians at the G8 Summit. He even dissed Bono by refusing to meet with him. He said it isn't his 'shtick.' That's just cold.
