Have you heard the one about the speechwriter...

A couple of points on plagiarism-gate:

  • I feel for the researcher who had to have listened to tons of right-wing speeches from around the world and somehow picked up on the similarities between the two.

  • I'm sure it is no coincidence that Michael Ignatieff does the economy stuff and Bob Rae does the "Look at how scary and extreme Harper is- he supported the Iraq war" stuff.

  • It's highly likely that Lippert and Howard's speechwriter just ripped off the same Bush talking points. As if they don't have like a worldwide neo-con listserve that sends those things around.

  • There's nothing much else to say that hasn't been said in a gazillion different ways by the MSM, other bloggers, or the busy pundits over on the Macleans blogs. This one has been pundited to death.

Award for best quip on Conservative plagiarism goes to Brad Lavigne, NDP campaign spokesperson (as heard on Mike Duffy Live):

"I think now we know why Mr. Harper doesn't have his platform out. They're waiting for the Australian Liberal party to finish writing it."

Brad hits it out of the park with 1/2 punch. Like Thomas Walkom in Politicians regularly steal words

He coyly asks "On a day when the world's financial markets are reeling, the Liberals are attacking Stephen Harper over a speech he made five years ago about Iraq. Does that make any sense? It doesn't to me."

He dismisses it as trivial:

'"It matters a lot," when, "Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion said yesterday. "Canadians want that their country speak with their own voice on the world stage."'

Walkom thinks Canadians are more concerned over "content" rather than mere "words."

Yap, but he loves the irony of it all

"That Harper and fellow-conservative Howard have near-identical brains is well-known. That Harper and his now archrival Ignatieff both supported George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq is deliciously ironic.

Which begs the next question

Does Iggy share the near-identical brains of both Harper and fellow-conservative/LIBERAL-BY-PARTY Howard?

It seems so!
