I was too busy at the Vancouver party to put together a substantial election post (you should be expecting another video soon, you lucky readers), but here are some thoughts:
Linda Duncan. Wow. I will be smiling for a long time over that. You made me proud today, Edmonton.
I'm excited about Don Davies in Vancouver-Kingsway. Don is just a hell of a guy and supremely principled and qualified for the job. It's nice when the good guys win.
In terms of the overall picture, I would say that the big losers in this election are Harper and Dion. Harper called this election to get a majority government. As bad as things looked for him at one point, he can't be that thrilled with the outcome. Dion is in trouble. The popular vote for the Liberals was the worst in history. Somewhere, John Turner is relieved to be handing over that record.
More later.

First, thanks for all your posts during the election. You are great!
I think the NDP did well, we did not however make the break through that was staring us in the face. I hope we enjoy our small successes and look at what we need to do to make a big gain or win next time.
Im kinda tired of playing on the edge of the sandbox, I want to be in the middle!
Was hoping to see a video this morning... but it was pretty crazy in there.
Great summation!
Thanks Ricky. And I think that we made some gains as a party that aren't seen in the results. But more on that later.
And Aaron, you vastly overestimate my video-editing abilities. It was almost midnight when I left the party. Dipper Chick Productions is not quite big enough yet to have a team capable of turning over footage in that kind of a time frame. But we'll get there one day.
salut de Montréal :)
I love your blog and your videos cant wait for next...
you will be happy to notice that quebec never vote so high for ndp since 1988. And they probably never did before broadbent.
Il faut construire là-dessus. c'est du solide ! go NPD go

Good site you keep here, Ms. Dipper.
While I'm glad Brother Davies stormed to victory in V-Kingsway (all that hard work paid off) and we're now at 37 seats nationally, I don't share all that much of your euphoria.
Sure, the Liar (Liberal) vote collapsed in Western Canada. But it didn't come our way, as many had hoped. Rather, it went to the CONs--where it usually goes when Liberal voters are mad with that party (much like traditional Conservative voters go Liberal when mad at their party).
In BC, all we really did was hold our own, with the usual "strong second" showing in many ridings--for which there is no prize.
One good thing about this is that it just might finally put to rest this idiotic "coalition-with-Liberals-to-stop-Harper" crap that Judy Rebick similar left-liberals have been spewing out.
I remember Dion, on his first national tour in BC, praising the BC Liberal regime and its leader Gordie--arguably the most corrupt, dishonest, economy-wrecking, democracy-destroying, poverty-inducing, land-raping government in BC's history.
And these are people we're supposed to ally ourselves with ?!?!?
The truly sad part is that we, as NDPers, often get too timid about our values and policies. While our platform was the only one that addressed the fundamentals of sustainable economic democracy (the key ingredients in democratic socialism), we rarely actively promote this as an alternative to corporate capitalist domination over our businesses and economy.
Couple this with the sad fact that we lack the support of any major media enterprise (as they are all corporatized and owned by Liberals and Conservatives) and you can see why election results are so disappointing.
Just a few thoughts. Keep up the good work.
